« The Great Houdini” is a play about being locked in and breaking away. It’s a story that unfolds between inner and outer reality, where inner and outer voices intermingle, and where magic is constantly breaking through a brutal or trivial reality as an expression of the inner life of dreams. A modern tale about  endless illusions, about being locked up in a state of inner chaos and  apparent outer calm and  order,  while on the verge of collapsing.

The main character Enzo is a former conjurer who is now a rich and successful businessman. He has become alienated even  from his own success. However, when he meets a girl trapped in a life of drudgery,   the fragments of his own existence will begin to take shape.

”The Great Houdini” is a love story where “magic” not only means performing conjuring tricks, but also being confronted with the inexplicable.

In « The Great Houdini» Giacomo Ravicchio proves himself to be a conjuror of some talent. This goes for the beautiful and magical imagery of the set design as well. Every now and then he treats the audience   to a veritable Las Vegas magic show, taking on the main character role himself and pulling off illusions both great and small.

I met and played with a great guitarist and bluesman, Jesper Folke, steel guitars player. He builds himself his instruments out of car spare parts! He had old come–of-age Russian amplifiers and most of all a  special feeling for music! In the play, Jasper was responsible for building the machines meant for Hudini’s magic tricks and I learnt of his incredible talent just by chance, while chatting with him ! Great meeting !
